Xolo Maridueña Sets Broadway Debut in Buena Vista Social Club as Blue Beetle Return Takes Shape
The Cobra Kai actor will play Juan de Marcos for seven weeks, adding a Broadway run to a slate that includes DC and Netflix projects.
Xolo Maridueña is headed to Broadway. The actor will make his debut in Buena Vista Social Club as Cuban musician Juan de Marcos, joining the production at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre from November 17, 2026, through January 3, 2027.
Maridueña called Broadway a longtime dream in the casting announcement. The Tony-winning musical tells the story of the Cuban artists behind the landmark Buena Vista Social Club album; Juan de Marcos González also consulted on the show’s music.
The stage news comes as Maridueña prepares to suit up again as Jaime Reyes. In a Today interview shared September 10, he confirmed he is returning as Blue Beetle. His next announced appearance as the character is in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for July 9, 2027. A separate Blue Beetle sequel has not been announced.
He is also set to play Portgas D. Ace in Season 3 of Netflix’s live-action One Piece. Netflix has confirmed his casting and said the season is in production. Maridueña can currently be seen in Practical Magic 2 as Gideon, opposite Joey King, in the sequel that opened earlier this month.
For the actor who broke out on Cobra Kai, the Broadway engagement puts him in the middle of another story with a strong cultural legacy—this time, live onstage eight performances a week.
