‘Warriors’ Sets Broadway Cast, Spring 2027 Opening.

Jasmine Cephas Jones, Amber Gray and Gizel Jiménez join the musical adaptation, which brings a new sound to the cult New York story.

NEW YORK — The Warriors are heading uptown — and Broadway audiences can now secure their seats.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’ Warriors will begin previews March 9, 2027, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with opening night set for April 8. General ticket sales opened October 22, following the announcement of a principal cast that includes Jasmine Cephas Jones, Amber Gray and Gizel Jiménez.

Based on Walter Hill’s 1979 Paramount film The Warriors and Sol Yurick’s novel, the musical follows a Coney Island gang framed for the murder of Cyrus, a leader whose proposed truce offers a chance at peace. Their journey home from the Bronx becomes a fight for survival across New York City. Jenny Koons directs, with Andy Blankenbuehler serving as co-director and choreographer.

The material gives Miranda another distinctly New York canvas. Where In the Heights found its heartbeat in a neighborhood and Hamilton reframed the nation’s founding, Warriors takes its momentum from a city after dark — its rivalries, communities and dangerous crossings.

Miranda and Davis, who share book, music and lyrics credits, are building that world through a score drawing on hip-hop, salsa, ska and metal. Their adaptation also reimagines central roles from the film with women at the forefront. Cephas Jones plays Swan, Gray portrays Ajax and Jiménez takes on Rembrandt. Joining them are Jaci Calderon as Fox, Aneesa Folds as Cleon, Julia Harriman as Mercy, Sasha Hutchings as Cowgirl and Kenita R. Miller as Cochise. Sasha Allen plays Cyrus, Casey Likes is Luther and Donald Webber Jr. portrays Masai. Additional casting will follow.

For Latino audiences, the project offers another intersection of Miranda’s theatrical storytelling and New York’s musical cultures. That connection was already audible on the Warriors concept album, released in October 2024, which featured Marc Anthony alongside artists including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Billy Porter and Colman Domingo. Nas executive produced the recording, with Mike Elizondo producing. Those album appearances are separate from the announced Broadway cast.

The stage production is produced by Thomas Kail, Miranda, Luis A. Miranda Jr. and Jeffrey Seller, bringing several longtime Miranda collaborators into the project’s next chapter.

An announced ticket initiative will offer $79 seats through a lottery beginning January 11, 2027. A separate lottery covering the first two rows will offer tickets for $19.79 beginning March 9 — a nod to the film’s release year. Further details are forthcoming.

The challenge now is translating an immersive recording and a fiercely recognizable film into live theater. With its principal players announced and tickets on sale, Warriors has moved from concept-album curiosity to a Broadway production with a date to meet.
