Rubén Blades Plans Final Tour in 2027 as Film Projects With Antonio Banderas and Zoe Saldaña Beckon

Speaking at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami Beach, the Panamanian storyteller outlined a busy screen schedule while preparing to close a major chapter on the road.
MIAMI BEACH — Rubén Blades is preparing to take his final touring bow, but his next act already has a substantial cast.
The Panamanian singer, songwriter and actor reaffirmed plans to undertake his last musical tour in 2027 during an October 21 conversation at Billboard Latin Music Week. Speaking with Billboard’s Leila Cobo at the Faena Forum, Blades also discussed upcoming film work with Zoe Saldaña, Antonio Banderas and Danny Trejo.
For an artist whose career has moved between concert stages and film sets, the announcement suggests a change in emphasis rather than an artistic exit. The road may be approaching its final stretch; the storytelling continues.
According to EFE’s reporting from the conversation, Blades said he expects to begin a film with Saldaña in New York in December, followed by a project identified as Armadillo Salvaje, alongside Banderas and Trejo. He described the latter as his third film with Banderas. Further details about the Saldaña project were not provided in that report.
That distinction is important for fans absorbing the farewell-tour headline. Blades is discussing the end of touring while actively outlining future work. A final concert itinerary does not, by itself, amount to retirement from recording, acting or writing.
His screen career gives that transition particular weight. Blades has long treated acting as a parallel creative pursuit, bringing the same interest in character and human behavior that makes his songwriting so vivid. The appeal of watching him move into another film is rooted in the qualities that have sustained his music: observation, intelligence and an instinct for the complicated person inside the story.
The Miami appearance also came during a week of recognition. Blades received the Billboard Icon Award at the October 22 Billboard Latin Music Awards, underscoring the enduring reach of a career spanning more than five decades.
An honor of that kind invites a retrospective. Blades’ own conversation, however, was pointed toward what comes next — a useful reminder that celebrating a legacy and continuing to build one can happen simultaneously.
For concert audiences, the prospect of a final tour will lend added significance to the familiar ritual of hearing his songs together. A farewell performance carries the memories listeners bring into the room: the first time they heard a record, the people associated with it and the years those songs have accompanied.
No detailed 2027 itinerary was included in the reports reviewed, leaving cities, venues and ticket announcements still to come.
For now, Blades has outlined a future with fewer miles on the concert circuit and more characters waiting on the page. His audience may be preparing to say goodbye to an era of touring, but there are still new stories ahead.
