Rauw Alejandro Steps Up To The Plate With Tom Hanks In Sony’s ‘The Comebacker’

The Puerto Rican music star joins Indiana Affleck and Lily Santiago in Marielle Heller’s baseball feature, scheduled for a summer 2027 theatrical release.
Rauw Alejandro is adding a Hollywood chapter to his career — and Tom Hanks is part of the lineup.
The Latin Grammy winner has joined Sony Pictures’ The Comebacker, alongside newly announced cast members Indiana Affleck and Lily Santiago. Marielle Heller is directing the film, which also stars Callum Turner, Amy Madigan and Sterling K. Brown. Deadline first reported the casting.
For Alejandro, the project offers a prominent platform as he expands his screen career. The Puerto Rican performer, known for hits including “Todo de Ti,” “Desesperados” and “Tattoo,” is also attached to Guy Ritchie’s action thriller Viva La Madness, starring Jason Statham. The two projects place him in distinctly different cinematic territory: a baseball story anchored by Hanks and an action production led by Ritchie.
The Comebacker reunites Hanks with Heller following their collaboration on A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Heller also wrote the screenplay, adapting a short story by Dave Eggers. The story centers on a veteran baseball reporter whose enthusiasm for his work and the sport is revived by the arrival of a new pitcher.
The pairing brings Hanks back to a sport that supplied one of his most enduring screen roles in A League of Their Own. This time, Heller’s involvement points toward a character-driven approach, with the new casting adding a music-world name to an ensemble already stocked with established dramatic performers.
Affleck’s credits include What Comes Around and Company, the latter directed by his father, Casey Affleck. Santiago’s television work includes NBC’s La Brea and Netflix’s Untamed. Their additions broaden a cast that also includes previously announced Patricia Clarkson.
Gary Goetzman is producing for Playtone alongside Heller and Leah Holzer for Defiant By Nature. The production is being made in cooperation with Major League Baseball and the New York Mets, with Working Barn and Charles Miller executive producing.
Sony has scheduled The Comebacker for July 30, 2027, giving Alejandro’s fans a summer date to watch as his move into movies takes shape.
