Luis Guzmán Isn’t Slowing Down: ‘Super Mario Galaxy,’ ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ (Out August 28) & ‘Wednesday’ Keep Veteran Actor Busy

Luis Guzmán isn’t slowing down.

The veteran Puerto Rican actor, whose four-decade career has stretched from gritty dramas to studio comedies and prestige television, continues to add major franchise work to a résumé that already includes Boogie Nights, Traffic, Carlito’s Way and Wednesday.

One of Guzmán’s latest high-profile turns comes in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, where he voices Wart, the longtime Nintendo villain. Guzmán joined an ensemble that includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Donald Glover, Brie Larson and Issa Rae. Nintendo officially lists Guzmán among the film’s principal voice cast.

It’s another mainstream franchise credit for an actor who has spent much of his career moving seamlessly between character roles and scene-stealing supporting performances.

Guzmán also appears in the long-delayed Coyote vs. Acme, the live-action/animation hybrid starring Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor. The film, once shelved by Warner Bros. before being acquired by Ketchup Entertainment, is finally headed to theaters August 28. Early critical reaction has been notably strong.

Meanwhile, Guzmán remains part of Netflix’s Wednesday universe as Gomez Addams, keeping him attached to yet another globally recognized property.

For Guzmán, born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York, the current run underscores something Hollywood sometimes overlooks: longevity. At a stage when many character actors see opportunities narrow, Guzmán continues finding new audiences — from longtime movie fans to a generation discovering him through Wednesday and Mario.

Four decades into the business, Luis Guzmán is still very much in the game.
