J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer Split After Nearly a Decade Together

The Colombian superstar and Argentine model are going their separate ways after a longtime relationship, with their 5-year-old son Río remaining their priority.

J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer have ended their relationship after nearly a decade together.

Ferrer confirmed the separation on September 16, revealing on Instagram Stories that she and the Colombian music star, whose real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, had decided to “take separate paths.” 

“After sharing so many years and important moments together, José and I have decided to take separate paths,” Ferrer wrote. She described the breakup as a decision made with “love” and “respect,” adding that the family’s focus remains their son, Río. 

The couple first crossed paths in 2017 when Ferrer appeared in Balvin’s music video for “Sigo Extrañándote.” Their relationship began the following year, and in June 2021 they welcomed Río. 

The breakup follows weeks of speculation surrounding the couple. Reports had pointed to changes in their social-media activity, while separate allegations involving Balvin circulated online. Neither Ferrer’s breakup statement nor Balvin has publicly identified infidelity as the reason for the separation, and Ferrer did not disclose a specific cause. 

Days after Ferrer’s announcement, Balvin publicly acknowledged her birthday with an affectionate Instagram tribute, celebrating her strength and thanking her for giving him what he called the greatest gift of his life, Río. 

For one of Latin music’s most recognizable couples, the split closes a highly visible chapter that stretched across Balvin’s rise into a global crossover star and Ferrer’s career as an international model and entrepreneur.

But one distinction is important: this is a separation, not a divorce. Balvin and Ferrer were longtime partners but were not married.

For now, both appear intent on keeping the next chapter centered on their son, with Ferrer asking for understanding and privacy as the family navigates the transition.
