Benjamin Bratt Returning For Pixar’s ‘Coco 2’ As Ernesto De La Cruz

Disney unveiled new details for Coco 2 at D23, setting the sequel to its Oscar-winning 2017 animated hit for November 2029. The new film will pick up with Miguel Rivera as a teenager, continuing his musical journey while once again connecting the living world with the Land of the Dead.

Benjamin Bratt is confirmed to return as Ernesto de la Cruz, the celebrated musician whose dark family connection drove much of the original film.

The bigger question is how much of the original ensemble will reunite. Anthony Gonzalez, who voiced Miguel, and Gael García Bernal, who played Héctor, have not been officially confirmed in the material released so far. Other original voices included Alanna Ubach, Jaime Camil, Edward James Olmos and Gabriel Iglesias, making their potential returns ones to watch as casting develops.

Director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina are returning, with Inside Out 2 producer Mark Nielsen producing.

The original Coco became a cultural and box-office phenomenon, winning Oscars for Animated Feature and the song “Remember Me.” Now, more than a decade later, Pixar is betting audiences are ready to cross the marigold bridge again.
